Hi everyone,
As some of you know... I've been in on the beta testing for the new service that MediaMax (the old streamload guys) has been working on as a replacement for the defunct (and never worked right since day one) MediaMax.
Recently they've opened it up officially, so I am now able to share with all of you the information on it. Just remember that it is still in BETA and they still have some bugs to work out. However, in my testing it is already better than MediMax was.
As soon as our site opens up again, we will fully support "The Linkup", and the old MediaMax section will be moved to an archive.
Note that all MediaMax files will be moved over to The Linkup by them automatically. They have started the migration process, but it won't be complete for a while yet. That means that all your old Streamload files that were then migrated to MediaMax, will now be migrated to The Linkup.
Now, to note... The Linkup works a bit differently then MediaMax and Streamload did as they are marketing it as "A Social Network for File Sharing". It still has a "Free" account, and several paid options. ...and any shared files that qualify for the new "social storage" model don't count towards your storage limit. Only files that are your personal files count towards the limit. In other words any files you request on the forums here are "socially stored" by the community and don't count as personal files. This works the same way the old streamload did, it just has a fancy new title since they are now marketing it as a "Social Network for File Sharing". (Fancy new title, same old features.)
Also, they will be adding a new feature soon where you can allow people to upload files to your The Linkup account.
Here is the official new site:
http://www.thelinkup.com/
The new price plans (remember "socially stored" files don't count towards your storage limit):
http://www.thelinkup.com/SubscriptionPlan.aspx
Also, there are several blogs which have been documenting the news and the move (and bugs in the new system). If you are interested they are:
The old MediaMax Blog
The MM "users" Blog
The NEW "The Linkup" Blog
FYI, the new service has a complete developers API that we have been working with to develop the new "File Depot" section of Noated with. It unfortunately won't be up right away, but as The Linkup is still in BETA, and they are still migrating files from MediaMax. We don't feel it's ready to put on Noated yet anyway.
-Dianne (webmaster of Noated)
EDIT: Also, correct me if i'm wrong, but there will be no monthly download limit... only a storage limit (which "socially stored" files don't count as), and a "Download file size limit" which is 10MB for free users, and 2GB for paid users. Since the size limit of any stored file is also 2GB, then all you need to be able to download as many files as you want is a $5.95/month account and a place like Noated (shamelss plug) to be able to request "socially stored" files be sent too your account.

Sorry, Di, but so far what I've seen of the new service is lacking. Those of us that have continued through the whole MediaMax debacle are waiting to see if the promises made for the migration from MM to TLU will be kept or if, once again, those folks will hose us over. At this time they say, only paid accounts are going to be migrated as is, and that is due to their "mover tool" not working (which they should have tested and known about before trying to use it.) They have said that the social storage limits won't be enforced until "summer", but the account storage limits are what may force archives to be lost. In my account, they have so far placed 2 folders which contain files and folders that do not relate in the least to my existing MediaMax file/folder structure. Those folders which they are tallying at over 42 GB also keep me from being able to upload ANYTHING to the account.
I am not alone with the troubles we're already having from the start of their launch of TLU. The uploading crew of the sharing community, of which I'm apart, will decide after the full cut over to the service, but if we're not able to upload, there won't be much to be able to share.

kina_kudos, that was a totally worthless reply
Update on TLU: MM is finally no more, address takes you to TLU. Most accounts have nothing in them, the rest have a micro amount of what they did have, and that is mixed up, out of their folders, many folders blank or containing one file. So far, TLU has lived up to our expectations. That means that we expected it to be a dismal failure, and it looks to going to be an even worse debacle than the Streamload to MediaMax mess was.

Everything, I mean EVERYTHING IS JUMBLED UP! I can't even begin to explain how pissed off I am. At least with the transfer to MediaMax, the folders that appear had arrived in a decent order and yes, there were files missing. But now, tons of blanks and I have stuff in my folders I don't know where it came from. I want to pull my hair out. I've sent a reply about billing on Friday. I wanted to know will they credit us for the days where we can't use our account and will our accounts get charged for this May when obviously 95% of our files will slowly trickle in. Still no reply. If anyone knows, please post. Thank you.

Things like this remind me why I ditched streamload, well that and it being a rip off. Especially when there`s Usenet, IRC, torrents or free DDL`s out there.
Hell rapidshit is more worth the cash, if you are into things like obscure music and know the right people.

I have a completely blank account...it's totally empty. This is seriously it for me. If nothing is back by the end of the month, I'm ditching it. I haven't been able to download anything for MM in forever - I just hung on praying something would eventually work. I'm tired. :~(

Very few folks have anything in their accounts, Brigh, which is why we have kept hounding after those folks at TLU (Total Losers Universal). Since WillT-san has been one of the major beta-testers, and has a semi-good relationship with John Hood, we're hoping that he at least can get our EXTREME displeasure through to them. If you want entertainment, keep watch on the comments over on the TLU official blog, or the unofficial but more honest one at http://thelinkupusers.blogspot.com/

That made me feel a little bit better. Thank you for sharing it. :) The site made me smile if even just a little.

I canceled after I got notice of the change 4 days before it was supposed to happen, because most of my account was gone anyway, I couldn't upload, and I'd given them enough free money to waste over the past couple of years. That was the fastest email response I've ever gotten from them, which makes me laugh, bitterly.
Part of me hopes it gets better and I'll re-up some other time, but I feel sort of screwed. Damn my youthful optimism, but it exists :(
If I had a 40 ounce, I would not pour it on the ground, I would instead turn it into a Molotov cocktail and throw it through the doorway. It is not a homie, it is the man that screwed my best friend in my bed, while I was asleep in it.

MediaMax / The Linkup is closing
We regret to inform you that we will be closing The Linkup service on Friday, August 8 at 5:00 pm PDT.
The Linkup is no longer accepting any uploads or new accounts, and no further charges will be made to your credit card. After August 8, your account will not be accessible, all your personal information will be deleted (username, billing information, history, etc), and your files will be deleted. Please download any files that are in your account that you wish to keep before Friday, August 8 at 5:00 pm PDT.
It was not possible to satisfactorily complete the move of files from MediaMax to The Linkup as we had expected, and as a result cannot offer a service that meets your expectations and our business requirements. This is a very disappointing outcome for us, and we know it has been a frustrating experience for many of our customers.
We are very sorry that we have not been able to rebuild our service as we had envisioned. We sincerely appreciate those of you who stuck by us and held out hope for the return of a great service, and apologize that things did not work out better. And also a special thanks and apology to those developers who have been developing applications on The Linkup API that can no longer be supported.
Sincerely,
The Linkup Team
So at long last the moronic monkeys realize just how badly they F*'d it all up and are putting us all out of our misery.
The laughable part of their statement is that part about downloading files. WHAT F'ING FILES! They never managed to migrate them so they could be downloaded.
So goodbye, and thanks for none of the fish! Bastiches!

I'm so unbelievably frustrated by this, as I had made most of the new forums to work with the linkup and was working on thier new API... grrr... M-A-D!!!
Donno what we're gonna do now.
Guess in the meantime i'll remove all parts of the new site associated with that, and get the new forums live. There's so much that will have to be removed tho now. :(

Ugh, big surprise....I've been paying all these months and haven't had service. There's nothing to download in my account. It's completely empty. God what idiots...I didn't think any of the site upgrades were necessary, y'know? I was satisfied with regular streamload v1. They messed up a good thing, imo.
I've been using other places and torrents to download, so I'll be fine without it. But still, it was nice having it in the early days.
Should I close my account directly? Or just wait it out?

Their spin-off company Nirvanix only does paid storage. Heh.
Personally, Mediafire is a viable solution, and 'iffy' items can be uploaded with innocuous sounding file names and extensions... with the correct name posted here. >_>;;
Of course, we just need a program to upload to mediafire, as the only method of uploading right now is by the web.
EDIT: well, someone wrote one, it works but not under Vista. There's another one (Google cache as it requires login), but I dunno... :P They're just frontends...

I'm working with a friend on a replacement service... more details to be announced VERY shortly.
TLU officially goes down on august 8th, and we've been grabbing as much of all the old archives as we can. (There's a LOT of GB of data to grab... but we estimate we'll be done before the 8th.)
